those who had lost their names and were called by price.

그들을 세워 두고 값을 부르던 질서가
The order that lined them up and named their price

처음으로 멈췄다.
stopped for the first time.

그것이 이번 전쟁의 진짜 변화였다.
That was the true change this war brought.

바르카르는 오랫동안
For a long time, Barcar

사람을 돈으로 바꾸는 나라였다.
had been a kingdom that turned people into money.

중앙 내해와 동부 육상로,
Across the Central Inland Sea and the eastern land routes,

The warehouses were not empty, yet grain prices rose,

끝난 분쟁은 다시 살아났고,
Old disputes returned,

계약은 마지막 인장 앞에서 깨졌다.
and contracts broke just before the final seal.

사소한 어긋남이 겹치자

시장은 물건보다 먼저 신뢰를 잃었다.
the market lost trust before it lost goods.

바르카르는 굶주린 것이 아니라
Barcar was not starving.

불안에 잠식되기 시작했다.
It was being consumed by anxiety.

The east was no different.

병참 마차는 늦었고,
Supply wagons were delayed,

군수 문서는 필요한 날에만 어긋났다.
military papers fell out of order on the exact days they were needed.

결국 바르카르는
In the end, Barcar

이대로 두면 왕국이 마른다고 판단했다.
judged that the kingdom would dry out if this continued.

그래서 전쟁을 택했다.
So it chose war.

동부 관문을 움켜쥐고,
To seize the eastern gate,

협곡에 전시 통행세를 얹고,
to impose wartime tolls on the gorge,

흔들리는 장부를 바깥의 적으로 덮기 위해서였다.
and to bury its shaking ledgers beneath an external enemy.

하지만 아르케디아도
But Arkadia, too,

칼을 뽑아야 했다.
had to draw its sword.

너무 정확한 때에 올라온 문서들이
Documents arriving at far too precise a moment

지금 움직이지 않으면
made the Empire believe

동부의 길과 바자르를 잃는다고 믿게 만들었기 때문이다.
that if it did not move now, it would lose the eastern roads and the Bazaar.

그렇게 바르카르는 물러설 수 없었고,
So Barcar could no longer retreat,

아르케디아도 기다릴 수 없었다.
and Arkadia could no longer wait.

둘 다 자기 판단이라 여겼지만,

실제로는 이미 누군가가 짜놓은 흐름대로 움직이고 있었다.
but in truth, they were already moving within a flow someone else had laid out.

전쟁이 시작된 뒤에도

War funding and logistics kept aligning,

바르카르가 언제 가장 비싼 전력을 잃을지도 계산되어 있었다.

the rumors that split the merchant houses,

동부 병참을 어긋나게 만든 일정,
the schedules that threw eastern logistics off balance,

그리고 이안과 제나를 같은 전장에 세운 타이밍까지.
and even the timing that placed Ian and Jenna on the same battlefield.

그 모든 흐름은 하나로 이어져 있었다.
All of those currents were tied together as one.

조선은 직접 칼을 들지 않았다.
Joseon did not draw the sword directly.

국가가 움직인 것도 아니었다.
Nor had the nation itself truly moved.

다시 움직일 수 있는 판을 만드는 것.
Ian, Jenna, and she herself could move again.

이번 전쟁은 승패의 기록이 아니었다.
This war was not a record of victory and defeat.

카타리나가 세상에 처음 낸 균열이었다.
It was the first crack Katarina carved into the world.
