ABOUT:
-------------
This is one of my favorite poems, and one that is felt deeply —almost as if I wrote it myself. In many ways, it reminds me of my own piece, “Funeral For Me,” which explores similar themes. I understand the words more than I sometimes wish I did, but there’s a certain comfort in familiar sadness.
I added my own lyrics to complete my interpretation and vision of the piece.
Enjoy the arrangement!

LYRICS:
-------------
[intro]
I felt a Funeral
(in my Brain)
[verse]
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading -
till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through...
[verse 2]
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum
Kept beating - beating -
till I thought
My mind was going numb
(My mind was going numb)
(My mind was going numb)
[buildup]
[Chorus - by Eme]
And I knew it then…
(I knew it then)
Soft as it settles in
And I knew it then…
(I knew it then)
Nothing left to defend
The end didn’t come to me—
I walked into the end
[verse 3]
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead,
again,
Then Space began to toll...
[Bridge]
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence,
some strange Race,
Wrecked,
solitary,
here...
[interlude]
[instrumental]
[Pre- Chorus - by Eme]
I knew it then,
I knew it then…
No need to begin again
I knew it then
[Reprised Chorus - by Eme]
(I knew it then)
Soft as it settles in
I knew it then…
Nothing left to defend
The end didn’t come to me—
I walked into the end
[Outro]
And then a Plank in Reason (broke)
And I dropped down,
(and down)
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing... then.
And Finished knowing... then.
(I walked into the end)
((I walked into the end))
