Lyrics

Song of a Hypocrite2026
Inside the classroom, invisible threads
pull us into neatly tied groups.
Matching markers we bought together, shared notebooks passed around—
we fill them with pretty colors,
writing down ugly things about her.
“Hope she’d just die ♡”
I quietly change the subject, careful not to stand out.
“Hey, wanna stop somewhere on the way home?”
Ice cream or donuts—
if we walk to Ichigaya, we can get either.
Or taiyaki in Yotsuya…
though it might be a little too hot.
I sugarcoat the pitch-black feelings
hanging in the air around us,
and wish we could just keep laughing forever.
I joke more than usual, laugh a little too loud,
hoping no one brings her up again.
Please—don’t let them remember.
Because I know.
I saw her crying in the bathroom.
Next to the unused science prep room,
where no one ever comes.
The hymn-like school chime
that saves no one at all
swallowed the sound of her sobbing.
I sugarcoat the pitch-black feelings
we all pretend not to own,
and wish we could just keep laughing forever.
I clown around, exaggerating every smile,
hoping no one brings her up again.
And please—
don’t let anyone notice
this feeling soaked in self-protection.
Please don’t let it show.
Please don’t let it show.
