This is just a list of things I’ve felt during my five or six years living in Japan as a half-Japanese, half-American person.

I don’t really know what it means myself.

But these things really did happen.

When I looked back at the lyrics, I suddenly realized —

maybe this was the chain that had been binding me all along.

One parent told their child,

“Don’t do that — the clerk will get mad.”

Another said,

“You mustn’t trouble other people.”

And yet another whispered,

“Don’t — it lowers your worth.”

…So tell me,

which of these is right?

Someone answered softly,

“All of them are right.”

Then came the voice of the crowd:

“Don’t joke around — you’re breaking the harmony!”

Um… I don’t know what to say to that.

これは日米ハーフの私が5～6年日本に住んで感じた事を並べただけなんだ。 意味は自分でもわからない。 でもこういう事が本当にあったんだよ。 この歌詞を見返した時、私を縛る鎖はこれかと直感したよ。

ある親は子どもに言った。

「そんなことしちゃダメよ、店員さんに怒られるでしょ。」

べつの親は言った。

「人に迷惑をかけちゃいけません。」

さらにべつの親は囁いた。

「やめなさい、それじゃ価値が下がるわ。」

……ねぇ、どれが正しいんだろう？

誰かが静かに答えた。

「どれも正しいんだよ。」

すると群衆の声が響いた。

「ふざけないで、和を乱すな！」

えっと……なんて言えばいいんだろう。
