“Matsukaze” — Like a Small Festival
Matsukaze is based on the classical Noh text refined by Zeami in the Muromachi period.
It tells the story of two sisters, Matsukaze and Murasame, who live by the shore of Awaji and mourn the absence of their departed lover. In moonlight, waves, and the whispering pines, the lingering shadow of unfulfilled love is expressed.
This piece was inspired by advantage Disorder (@advantagedisorder), who introduced me to the words of Noh. That encounter led me to study it from scratch and create this song. Thank you so much.
Through Matsukaze, I came to feel deeply that human emotions remain unchanged even after a thousand years.
Yet at the foundation of that truth, there is always the premise of death.
And it is precisely because of that, that we must embrace and enjoy this very moment.
By setting the original text to melody and transforming it through code with AI, the traditional sense of yūgen has become pop-like, tender, and endearing.
It is “Matsukaze” — a small festival where past and present intertwine.
