When I was just a young man I was restless, always pushing

Barely more than a kid but I wanted more than staying put

Packed a few things and left my folks wondering why

I knew it hurt them bad to see their only son slip away like that

Fell in with a rough crowd everyone talked about

That kind of living only pulls you down I learned

Especially the moment I felt something bigger call me out

I thought it was over then

But something held me here

We were moving a big herd toward the border one time

Everything got wild all at once the animals turned

I heard a sound inside my head or maybe felt it more

My horse went down and threw me hard into the dirt

Lying there I figured this was it my luck had run out

All those things I'd done came rushing through my mind unfinished

I whispered please forgive me I don't want to end up lost

These half-made promises I meant them even if they're rough

I thought it was over then

But something held me here

I said Lord help me now

The herd split round me somehow like a wall had formed

I stayed down low and breathing while the rest kept going past

Wasn't supposed to end for me that way I guess

A second chance just sitting there I didn't understand

My old life looked so small when I thought it through right then

All the wasted moves and wondering what I'd been chasing

Kneeling in the dust I gave what was left of me

Said I'd follow if He'd show me how to walk it straight

A pardon came that felt like peace I never earned

No more running from myself or what I used to be

I gave my life that moment when the call came through
