江月在水

The moon rests on the river

水月無聲

River and moon, both wordless

風過汀蘆

Wind moves through the reeds by the shore

白露微凝

White dew gathers in the hush

一痕橋影

The bridge leaves just a trace

半入空明半個天空

Half in the lucid water, half in the open sky

我未開門

I have not opened the door

也未掩燈

Nor have I dimmed the light

只聽遠水

I only listen to the distant water

流向更深

Running into deeper dark

月照孤舟

Moonlight falls upon a lonely boat

舟行極輕

It drifts so softly through the night

不向人問

It asks nothing of anyone

只向波心

Only follows the heart of the waves

有些舊意

Some old feelings

到此微明

Grow faintly clear here at last

若說太早

If spoken too soon

反失其真

They lose what made them true

不必說盡

There is no need to say it all

江月自會應人

The moon and river will answer for us

一窗微火

A small light by the window

臨水長明

Still burns beside the water

若有歸舟

If a returning boat should appear

便向此岸輕停

Let it come and rest upon this shore

我把未說完的心事

The words I never found a way to finish

留與夜深

I leave them to the deep of night

山色如昔

The hills remain as they once were

夜氣初沉

Night settles in, slow and deep

人間聚散

All our meetings and partings

都入波紋

Dissolve into the rings of water

你若未至

If you do not come

我亦不問

I will not ask why

只將此心

I will only keep this heart

慢慢養溫

And warm it, little by little

不必說盡

There is no need to say it all

江月自會應人
