Lyrics
Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2
Chorus
Bridge
Outro
English Translation
Verse 1
With a sidelong glance I mark the brink of hell;
the ashen wind is wet, and the tongue falls mute.
Thus the liminal path grows faintly lit,
and the bells on chains ring afar, sepulchral.
Chorus
Past the sea of fire, the shadow thins to a thread;
the heart is penumbra, the body but foam.
A calling voice, hushed, at chiaroscuro’s verge—
who beckons there, alas, at heaven’s slender gate?
Verse 2
The gaki’s laughter—faintly ethereal;
blood-lamps waver, and the dark is slick.
Yet the footfall moves as in reverie,
the breath turns over to cross the limen.
Chorus
Past the sea of fire, the shadow thins to a thread;
the heart is penumbra, the body but foam.
A calling voice, hushed, at chiaroscuro’s verge—
who beckons there, alas, at heaven’s slender gate?
Bridge
Palms interlaced, the prayer makes no sound;
the light lies diaphanous, like thin gauze.
O earth’s catabasis, O sky’s anabasis—
here, apotheosis: life inverts.
Outro
I have forgotten the names—of hell and of paradise.
Only the pulse remains, quietly numinous.
What lies ahead is white; no words are needed:
with a single breath, the soul does sublimate.
