16歳。1720年、江戸時代中期に生きる少女。すでに寺子屋の学業も終え、家で勉強、家事手伝い、家業の剣術と柔術道場を手伝っている。侍でもある父の勧めもあり、体術も教わっておりなかなか気の強い少女に育った。しかし、毎日同じことの繰り返し……。辛抱強いおはなもちょっと退屈になってきた。しかも父親はおはなを結婚させようと、縁談を持ちかけてくる。まだ自由でありたいおはなは、逃げ回る毎日だ。母は元芸者で三味線や小唄の先生である。おはなは三味線や小唄を身につけさせられていたが、これこそが自分の生きる道だと考えていた。友達のおたねと一緒に、三味線を弾いたり歌を歌ったりして過ごす毎日だ。

Ohana
Age 16. A girl living in mid-Edo-period Japan in the year 1720. She has already finished her studies at a terakoya (a private temple school) and now spends her days studying at home, helping with housework, and assisting with the family business: a dojo for swordsmanship and jujutsu.
At her samurai father’s recommendation, she has also been taught unarmed combat, and has grown into a rather strong-willed girl. However, every day is the same routine over and over again… Even patient Ohana has begun to feel bored.
To make matters worse, her father is trying to arrange a marriage for her and keeps bringing her proposals. Ohana, who still wants to be free, spends her days running away from such plans.
Her mother is a former geisha and a teacher of the shamisen and kouta (traditional short songs). Ohana was made to learn the shamisen and kouta, and she believes this is truly her path in life. Every day, she spends her time playing the shamisen and singing together with her friend Otane.
