Gingerbread little bear –

so sweet you chase away

the winter blues in a heartbeat.

The scent of pine will brush

against my skin,

and softly wake the memory

of far-off lights in a frosted window.

And in that very moment,

I lean again toward

a world of magic,

sparkling bright –

holding on with timid faith

to the chance of a miracle,

believing the stars

whisper to every branch,

to every snowflake,

that all is possible.

Gingerbread little bear –

you make me believe

in myself, in the world,

in the truth as a steady road

to something warm and endless,

where hand in hand we’ll go,

and smile as we count the stars.

I’ll warm my palms

on a mug of cocoa,

and feel that gentle thread

that ties me to tomorrow,

to something that will last,

and last…

And as we walk together,

we’ll catch the breath of wind,

share our laughter,

and count the stars so slowly

the night won’t dare to end.
