Late-night aisle where the costumes breathe,

Plastic faces watch while I leave my sleeve.

Tinsel halo, devil’s grin,

Tryin’ on lives I might have been.

Every price tag hums my tune,

Skeletons two-step under the moon.

Paper tombstones, glitter sin,

I trade my skin for sequins again.

Spirit Halloween, dress me in dreams,

Lace and latex, stitched-up gleam.

Fake blood runs where the spotlight beams,

I come alive in the in-between.

Spirit Halloween, call my name,

I haunt myself, I like the game.

Neon webs drip from the ceiling,

Plastic fangs bite back the feeling.

Smoke machine heart, heartbeat slow,

Gasp of a mannequin learning to glow.

Mirror says boo, I wink right back,

Queen of the clearance rack.

In the daylight I disappear,

But tonight my mask is clear.

Every fear tastes like candy—sweet,

Every chill just moves my feet.
