Lyrics
Context. This was written as a joke for a 80's dance song as if Morrisey had written it. Never really got fully completed and the lyric stucture never worked with the renders for 1980's dance theme and it just got lost in the shuffle. I was playing in studio and just needed a random structure to build a song off. Playing with it I ended up really liking this version. Built out the structure then covered it out some then used the covers for inspo and came out pretty well... Glad it worked out because it ate some credits.
Verse 1
I step with sadness,
Watch how they’re dragging,
And I stand pressed
Against the wall.
I moan in protest,
Silent alliance
With critics that
Won’t move at all.
Pre-Chorus
You’re eclectic, I’m eccentric,
My misery’s strangely magnetic.
You twirl in sequins, I sigh in black,
And you’re trying to make me dance.
chorus
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}
Far too skeptic
To feel romantic,
To be authentic —
You know I’m fickle,
Hopelessly cynical,
I wither, I whittle.
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}
Verse 2
Their joy is borrowed,
Gone by tomorrow,
A masquerade
Of sweat and glare.
I scream out my grievance,
Latest inconvenience,
Sneer at rhythm’s cheap affair,
Too proud to move, too proud to care.
Pre-Chorus
Clap your hands, cheer me on,
But none of it will make me move.
I won’t endorse, I won’t pretend —
Applause won’t make me feel enthused.
Chorus
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}
Far too skeptic
To feel romantic,
To be authentic —
You know I’m fickle,
Hopelessly cynical,
I wither, I whittle.
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}}
Bridge
And if salvation comes in rhythm…
Well then I’m damned and gladly so.
The drumbeat demands, the spotlight begs,
But I won’t be moved in such cheap ways.
Shake all you want, I’ll keep my malaise,
I’m too set in my ways.
Final Chorus
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}
Far too skeptic
To feel romantic,
To be authentic —
You know I’m fickle,
Hopelessly cynical,
I wither, I whittle.
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm)
{still not going to dance with you}
It’s just too simple (Yet I'm )
{still not going to dance with you}
Outro
I'm Still not going to dance with you…
I'm Still not going to dance with you…
