The Journal of Dr. Aurelian Vale — “Unter Wasser Stadt”
It has been many weeks since I first boarded the Zephyr’s Wrath, the black-flagged airship of Captain Thellon Brass.
To my own surprise, I am no longer a prisoner. Time has a strange way of turning fear into familiarity, and familiarity into something close to friendship.
Captain Brass, though fond of rum and tall tales, is no common pirate.
He insists he is a corsair, not a thief — a man of purpose rather than plunder.
One night, over a bottle of Jamaican fire, he told me the most curious story:
that he is descended from the bloodline of King Solomon himself, and that his father once ruled an empire of stone somewhere in the heart of Africa.
I confess, I laughed. The tale was absurd — or so I thought.
This morning, he woke me before dawn.
“We’re meeting someone,” he said.
Someone, it seems, who had been waiting for me.
The Zephyr’s Wrath descended until the clouds gave way to the sea, its great propellers stirring the surface like a storm.
There was no land in sight — only the endless blue.
Then, without warning, a massive platform of steel and glass rose from beneath the waves, crowned with a glowing elevator shaft that hissed and clanked as it breached the surface.
From it emerged a man in a long black coat, a brass monocle gleaming over one eye.
His accent was unmistakably Prussian.
“Professor Hans Schumacher,” he said, bowing slightly, “industrialist, dreamer, builder of the impossible. You, Doctor Vale, are about to see my magnum opus.”
I barely had time to protest before we began to descend again, the sea swallowing the elevator whole.
Through the glass walls I saw it — an entire city beneath the ocean. Towers of iron and crystal pulsing with golden light, cables alive with energy, mechanical fish darting through the shadows.
Steam rose in shimmering clouds even here, under the crushing pressure of the deep.
Schumacher smiled as I stood there, speechless.
“Behold,” he said, “Unter Wasser Stadt. The first self-sustaining civilization of the new age — powered not by coal or blood, but by the very sea itself.”
I have seen many wonders in my lifetime. Clockwork armies. Islands of steam and madness.
But nothing like this.
If heaven exists beneath the waves, then I may have found it… or perhaps, its imitation.

Unendlich Energie für dich
Hält die Stadt im Schwung
Unter Wasser lebt die Kraft
Dampfkraft in der tiefen Nacht
Meerwasser schenkt uns alle Macht

Taucheranzug sitzt so fest
Schauer kriechen in mein Nest
Einzigartig unser Test
Dampfmaschinen siegen
Metall und Wasser in Harmonie
Technik trifft auf Fantasie
Unaufhörlich stets im Dreh
Energie aus tiefem See
Unter Wasser lebt die Kraft
Dampfkraft in der tiefen Nacht
