The traffic light was green

when the world began to move

a thousand shoes on the pavement

a thousand stories running

I saw you in the crowd

like you see something rare

I wasn't looking for anything

but I found you anyway

And our eyes told each other

what mouths don't know

two strangers who already know

everything about each other

Then the feet decided

like feet always decide

and the world carried us away

each to their own side

I turned around

I already knew you would turn too

and you were there

and then you were no longer there

somewhere on that street

that gaze is still there

waiting for someone

to come back and take it

no one came back

no one ever comes back
