Johnny the Whistle
Dark Lovecraftian sea shanty, slow 6/8 rhythm, deep gravelly male vocal with ghostly crew chorus. Bowed bass, low drum, creaking timbers, and distant haunting whistle. Cinematic nautical folk horror with mournful atmosphere and rising dread.

Lyrics
Twere set out to sea, me old crew-mates and me,
Forty-eight nights through the black-bitten sea,
For seven weeks we rode through the brine,
Past God’s own edge, past reason’s line
The stars froze above, and the wind it cut clean,
When out on darkling horizon an apparition we did see…
A shape, and a hunger that no man could stand,
And Johnny the lookout first thought it land.
Ole Johnny the Whistle,
Ole Johnny the Watch,
Spotted a goat,
And whistled to stop.
So we sat asunder, and we sat afloat,
We waited to see, what the sea she had wrote.
The sky it went pale, the wind it withdrew,
And Johnny’s lips pursed...
as the dreadful note blew.
Ole Johnny the Whistle,
Ole Johnny the Watch,
Spotted a goat,
And whistled to stop.
And there it stood smiling
upon horizons dread
it whistled back at Johnny
and struck the man dead
Ole Johnny the Whistle,
Ole Johnny the Watch,
Spotted a goat,
And whistled to stop.
and it's yo ho
and we wrapped him in sail
and it's yo ho
we weighted the tail
and it's yo ho
poor Johnny shoved free
buried...
buried at sea
Ole whistle stop johnny
a moment for thee...
and it's yo ho
and we wrapped him in sail
and it's yo ho
we weighted the tail
and it's yo ho
poor Johnny shoved free
buried...
buried at sea
Ole whistle stop johnny
a moment for thee...
a moment for thee...
