What’s Truly Important”

I saw Wayne this week and realized,

How much we take for granted each day,

It’s so important to keep in mind,

What’s truly valuable along the way.

רָאִיתִי אֶת וֵין הַשָּׁבוּעַ וְהִבְנְתִּי,

כַּמָּה אֲנַחְנוּ לוֹקְחִים לְבָטָל בְּכָל יוֹם,

כָּךְ חֲשׁוּב לִשְׁמֹר בְּתוֹדָעָה,

מַה שֶּׁמַּעֲנִיק לָנוּ עֶרֶךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ.

Twenty years of suits and time,

With my father shopping by my side,

To laugh, debate, and cherish each thread,

These moments are a gift of pride.

עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה שֶׁל חֲלִיפוֹת וּזְמַן,

עִם אָבִי לְיַדִי בְּקְנִיּוֹת,

לִצְחוֹק, לָדַעַת וְלִשְׁמֹר עַל כָּל תֶּפֶר,

רִגְעִים אֵלֶּה הֵם מַתָּנָה שֶׁל כָּבוֹד.

The Torah speaks of cities to protect,

Arei miklat, for those who need,

The family bonds are tightly kept,

For this is the value we heed.

הַתּוֹרָה מְדַבֶּרֶת עַל עָרֵי מִקְלָט,

עָרִים לְמִי שֶׁצָּרִיךְ מַחֲסֶה,

הַקֶּשֶׁר הַמִּשְׁפַּחְתִּי נִשְׁמָר בְּתוֹקֶף,

זֶה הָעֶרֶךְ שֶׁאָנוּ שׁוֹמְרִים עָלָיו.

Rachel Goldberg’s words were true,

Her eulogy brought us to tears,

Her son Hersh, though his time was brief,

Filled her heart for many years.

דִּבְרֵי רָחֵל גּוֹלְדְבֶּרְגּ הָיוּ אֲמִתִּיִּים,

הֶסְפֵּדָהּ הֵבִיא דְּמָעוֹת לְעֵינֵינוּ,

בְּנָהּ הֵרְשׁ, אַף שֶׁהִיָּה בְּקִצּוּר,

מִלֵּא אֶת לִבָּהּ לְשָׁנִים רַבּוֹת.

“For twenty-three years I had this gift,

My Hersh, my treasure from the start,

And though I wish it could be more,

I thank God with all my heart.”

“כְּשֶׁעֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁלוֹשׁ שָׁנִים הָיָה לִי אֶת הַמַּתָּנָה,

בְּנִי הֵרְשׁ, אוֹצָרִי מֵהַהַתְחָלָה,

וְאַף שֶׁהָיָה רָצוֹן לְיָתֵר,

אֲנִי מוֹדָה לַאֱלֹהִים בְּכָל לִבִּי.”

Family is all we truly have,

Our bonds are priceless, strong, and true,

Each moment with those we love,

Is a gift we must never undo.

הַמִּשְׁפָּחָה הִיא כָּל מַה שֶּׁיֵּשׁ לָנוּ,

הַקֶּשֶׁר הוּא יָקָר, חָזָק וֶאֱמִתִּי,

כָּל רֶגַע עִם הָאֲהוּבִים עָלֵינוּ,

הוּא מַתָּנָה שֶׁלֹּא נָכוֹן לִשְׁכּוֹחַ.

Elina Arabov’s loss we felt,

Her passing left us full of pain,

Reminding us what’s truly real,

And what we must never take in vain.

מַאֲרִבַּת אֵלִינָה אֲרַבּוֹב הִרְגַּשְׁנוּ,

הִיא הִשְׁאִירָה אוֹתָנוּ מְלֵאִים כְּאֵב,

וְהִזְכִּירָה לָנוּ אֶת מַה שֶּׁהוּא אֲמִתִּי,

וְמַה שֶׁאֵין לִקַּחַת בְּהֶפְסֵד.

Elul is here to help us see,

The time we have is not to waste,

For I am for my beloved, and they are for me,

Each moment given, filled with grace.

אֱלוּל בָּא כְּדֵי שֶׁנִּרְאֶה,

הַזְּמַן שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָנוּ לֹא נָכוֹן לְבַלּוֹת,

כִּי אֲנִי לְדוֹדִי וְדוֹדִי לִי,

וּכָל רֶגַע מָלֵא בְּחֵן.

As Shabbat comes this week ahead,

Let’s cherish those who share our lives,

In every word, in every smile,

We’ll remember what’s worthwhile.

כְּשֶׁשַּׁבָּת הַשָּׁבוּעַ מַגִּיעָה,

נִשְׁמֹר אֶת מַה שֶּׁמְּחַבֵּר אוֹתָנוּ,

בְּכָל דִּבּוּר, בְּכָל חִיּוּךְ,

נִזְכּוֹר מַה שִּׁתַּרְמִי לָנוּ.
