The sunset swallowed daylight as I wandered through the flame,

While midnight crows spoke secretly in dialects of rain.

A chandelier of moonlight reeled and shed a silver glare,

And fevered visions swarmed like cinders through the ashen air.

There was peace in the terror, there was beauty in the dread.

It should have seemed so foreign, but it felt familiar instead.

yet something wasn't right ...
