Lyrics

It started as such a small lie
"I just didn't notice," that's all I'd say
But truthfully I kept turning away
Always pretending I couldn't see
First time I felt that guilt creeping in
Second time I was getting used to it
Third time it all became normal to me
Before I knew it, it was my routine
Was I wrong... or was there no choice at all?
The right answer was always what the "mood" would call
Anonymous justice screaming out
Only twisted echoes bouncing back around
Somewhere along the way I craved black and white
Without even realizing
Gray gets colored by the crime
Never thought that being "normal"
Would hold the highest worth of all
While preaching about diversity
Conformity was what they'd seek from me
The moment that I thought "forget it all"
Something inside my heart just died and fell
White and black don't matter, do they now?
Whatever serves you best becomes your white somehow
Someone's black is someone else's pure white
Mix it and mix it over and over again
What's left is nothing but plain gray in the end
Drowning in those nameless voices
Walking through this twisted world of choices
I was wanting black and white back then
That version of me from way back when
Wasn't wrong either, I can admit
Hey, who were you putting on that smile for?
Looking at whose face to know what to live for?
Swallowing down even the discomfort inside
Acting like it's fine while staying quiet
Gray mask sticking tight against your skin
"I'm okay" face became your second skin
Never needed any right answer
Never believed in justice after
But even when they say I'm in the wrong
I think it's fine to be myself and carry on
Even if it's just convenient white, that's enough
