Lyrics

"When the heart is as calm as the Antarctic, even fire feels cool."

He was lying on the ice,

like he was picking a fight with the sky.

When a penguin came close,

he just smiled with that "I don’t care" face,

but still gave up half the space.

I bet he didn’t even realize that kindness.

When penguins far away started making a fuss,

he narrowed his eyes and listened.

“That’s rock and roll,”

I’m sure that’s what he said in his head.

Because he was tapping out a rhythm with his toes, just a little.

Every time the wind blew,

his hair turned cold like ice,

yet somehow his profile shone

like the summer sea.

Here, at the edge of the world,

he looked like he’d found the center of himself.

I just stayed by his side.

If I spoke to him,

I felt like my voice would get carried away by the wind.

He stayed still for a while.

Riding the Earth’s rotation with the ice,

I thought maybe he’d just drift straight into space.

A penguin came up to my feet

and made a small sound.

He must have heard it,

because he yelled toward the sky, “Not yet!”

The only reply was the sound of the wind.

That’s when I knew.

His laughter was like a kid’s.

I guess he’ll keep living like this forever.

At the edge of the world, or at its center,

lying down, looking at the sky,

keeping only his own rhythm.

I looked at his back

and glanced up at the same sky.

It was the same view,

but the colors we saw were probably different.
