Lyrics
Levegőt!
Ki tiltja meg, hogy elmondjam, mi bántott
hazafelé menet?
A gyepre éppen langy sötétség szállott,
mint bársony-permeteg
és lábom alatt álmatlan forogtak,
ütött gyermekként csendesen morogtak
a sovány levelek.
Fürkészve, körben guggoltak a bokrok
a város peremén.
Az őszi szél köztük vigyázva botlott.
A hűvös televény
a lámpák felé lesett gyanakvóan;
vadkácsa riadt hápogva a tóban,
amerre mentem én.
Épp azt gondoltam, rám törhet, ki érti,
e táj oly elhagyott.
S im váratlan előbukkant egy férfi,
de tovább baktatott.
Utána néztem. Kifoszthatna engem,
hisz védekezni nincsen semmi kedvem,
mig nyomorult vagyok.
jó szóval oktasd, játszani is engedd
szép, komoly fiadat!
word for word:
Air!
Who forbids me to tell what hurt me
on the way home?
Onto the grass just now mild darkness descended,
like velvet-sprinkle
and under my feet sleeplessly turned,
as beaten children quietly grumbled
the thin leaves.
Searching, around squatted the bushes
on the edge of the city.
The autumn wind among them stumbled cautiously.
The cool loam
toward the lamps peeped suspiciously;
a wild duck startled quacked in the lake,
where I was going.
Just I thought, one might break upon me, who understands,
this landscape so deserted.
And behold suddenly there appeared a man,
but went on trudging.
I looked after him. He could rob me,
since to defend myself I have no will at all,
while I am miserable.
They may keep account of what I phoned
and when, why, to whom.
Into files they write what I dreamed of
and also, who understands it.
And I cannot suspect when there will be enough cause
to dig out that card index
which violates my right.
And in the country the fragile villages
– my mother was born there –
from the living law tree have fallen,
like here these leaves
and if upon them steps adult misfortune,
each clinks to report its misery
and crumbles, scatters away.
Oh, I did not imagine order like this.
My soul not such native.
I did not believe in a life, that more easily may subsist,
who is underhanded.
Nor a people, which fears when it chooses,
with eyes cast down ponders sly answer
and cheers, when there is revenge.
I did not imagine order like this.
Yet me
often not even knowing why, they beat,
like a small child,
who would have jumped for a good word at once.
I knew – far away my mother, my kin there,
these are strangers.
I have grown already. In my tooth multiplies
the foreign matter,
like in my heart death. But I have a right
and soul or clay
I am not yet and not so precious my hide,
that with mature head wordlessly I could endure,
if I am not free!
My leader from within leads me!
Humans, not beasts –
we are minds! Our heart, while desire ripens,
is not a card-index-data.
Come, freedom! You bear me order,
with good word teach, also allow to play
your beautiful, serious son!
