In January’s cold and shining glow,
When winter breathes through drifting snow,
The scent of roses feels so rare.
Yet heaven’s light is higher, fairer still.
What if I were a rose that day,
In January, in an earthly frame?
Within my petals — warmth and grace
I’d bring to souls grown numb with cold.
And if I were a rose,
I’d linger, gazing at the skies,
In quiet awe of how immense
The love that floats above us is.
And if in spring, within a garden deep,
I came to life — a blooming rose,
I’d softly sing to every flower:
“Rise above, to worlds beyond the stars.”
And if, carried off by wandering wind,
I fell into the endless sea,
From there into the Eternal Ocean
I’d drift with faith and hope in me.
Oh, if I were a rose!
This fragile crystal vessel I’d release,
And gently rise beyond it all
To long-desired, blissful skies.
Their blue embrace calls stronger still
Than all the kingdoms of the earth,
Than phantom lights and borrowed gold —
The wealth that never truly was.
If I were ever but a rose,
Bowing softly down to Earth, I’d say:
“Thank you, Earth.
Yet heaven’s light is higher, fairer still.”
