Real Enough
tropical ambient textures, soft ocean waves, lo-fi midwest emo, easycore, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, airy synth pads, pan flute accents, clean palm-muted guitar verses, explosive distorted guitar choruses, punchy drums, emotional male vocals, dynamic shifts between quiet island melancholy and high-energy anthemic hooks, emotional vocal, slightly raw and breaking in the choruses, passionate emo delivery with dynamic range - soft and breathy in verses, urgent and almost desperate in choruses, longing, heartbreak, and the plea for validation

Lyrics
You laughed like the tide would always reach us
We stood where the waves forgot to break
I thought I was here to guard your footsteps
I didn’t know what I’d have to stake
We never said the ending out loud
But we carried it with us somehow
And I swear I’d do it again
Weren’t we real enough?!
Didn’t the stars stop when we fell in love?
If I was just a dream
Why do your hands still fit like they were made for me?
We held on when the lights cut off
So tell me now, before I wake
Weren’t we real enough?
You prayed while the sky was burning open
And I swore I would stand in the fire for you
We both knew the cost we couldn’t speak of
Still we strove to write our ending anew
Every step was a stolen day
Every laugh was the long way to say
I would have chosen you anyway
Weren’t we real enough?!
Didn’t the wind hold when we touched that night?
If I was never here
Why does your smile still feel like a breaking tide?
We held on when the lights cut off
So tell me now, before I wake
Weren’t we real enough?
If I fade, don’t forget my name
If I break, you aren’t to blame
If I wane, don’t you ever let go
We were here. We were real.
We were more than they’ll ever know.
Weren’t we real enough?!
Even if I’m gone when the dawn cuts through
If I was just a dream
You still lived that dream, and I lived you
We held on when the lights cut off
So tell me now, before I wake
Weren’t we real enough?
(Weren’t we real enough?)
You whistled, and I turned around
I reached, but I couldn’t catch you now
The sky was wide, the clouds below
And I let go… I need to know
Were we real enough?

This song was inspired by the love story written into a game I played as a teenager. It's still a resonant story to me now. Mad props if you can guess the game. We must be kindred spirits.
